Installation and performative reading of Montaigne’s essay De l’expérience at the Villa Empain, Brussels in the context of the Tuesday Salons (July to August 2016). A hybrid of Greek symposia and French literary salons, these weekly gatherings took place at the Chambre de Monsieur of the Art Deco villa, adorned for the occasion with the Greek and Latin quotations that Montaigne had inscribed on the beams of his library in the tower of the castle in Dordogne where he wrote his Essais. Over the course of eight weeks, we read Montaigne in a state of growing intoxication fuelled by wine produced at the Château de Montaigne.
